For various reasons, you may want to purchase our plain donuts and make glaze at home. This can be the case when you have a favorite recipe, or you won’t be serving the donuts immediately and prefer a fresher glaze. Our menu of donuts go well with various kinds of glaze so we have decided to share with you some of our favorites, outside of our own that is.
This is a traditional glaze and the one most people think about when they think of glazed donuts.
Measure out two cups of powdered sugar. Add a quarter cup of milk and one teaspoon of vanilla. Mix the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and either drizzle the glaze over the donuts or dip the whole donut in for an all over coverage. For more of a vanilla taste, you can add an extra teaspoon of vanilla. If the glaze is too thin, add more powdered sugar, one tablespoon at a time.
In a microwave-safe bowl, place 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips. Add two tablespoons of butter, 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla and one tablespoon plus one teaspoon (four teaspoons) of light corn syrup. Heat in the microwave, stirring every fifteen seconds, until the chocolate chips are melted. Remove from the microwave and stir again, making sure the glaze is smooth. Drizzle or dip the donuts as desired. Place on a cake rack and allow to completely set. If you want, you can dip the donuts a second time for an even thicker glaze.
Here’s one for you coffee lovers!
Start with 1/2 cup brewed coffee. Mix in 1 and 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, one teaspoon of maple flavoring and two tablespoons of melted butter. Add a small pinch of salt to bring the flavors together. Mix all the ingredients together until the glaze is smooth. You can add a bit more powdered sugar for a thicker glaze. Drizzle over the donuts or completely immerse them in the glaze for an all over covering. Let sit on a cake rack until glaze sets.
Making your own glaze for donuts often makes them seem a bit more special, plus you can honestly take credit for them at the church potluck.
